Overall learning objective: To develop leadership competence and actionable knowledge in areas related to the management of information technology.

Specific learning objectives include the following:

IT Architecture & Emerging Technologies (Grazioli)

Project Management (Nelson): We will examine the latest findings from a meta-retrospective of 130 projects with a focus on evolving perspectives on evaluating project success, agile project management, managing project momentum, and contemporary best practices.

Driving Results through Social Networks (Cross): Title: Leading In A Connected World:
Networks of both formal and informal relationships are increasingly the means by which organizations create value and drive innovation. However, most leaders have only a vague idea of the networks around them and often don’t consider the possibility of trying to manage them to boost their organizations’ performance. Our research over the past decade has shown that leaders who are in the top 20% performer category throughout their careers tend to tap into networks to compensate for weaknesses in formal structures and obtain a multiplier effect on key talent and expertise in their organization. This session will describe how successful leaders obtain performance impact through networks and specific ways that CIOs have been driving these ideas into their organizations.

Twitter (Gray): “Is Twitter Strategic? An analysis of core ideas behind a new generation of social technologies to help managers think through the ways in which Twitter could contribute to competitively important goals (or not).”

Leadership Presence Workshop (The Ariel Group): Successful leaders build trust, command attention, develop relationships, and engender followership. In short, they possess presence or the ability to connect authentically with the hearts and minds of their audience in order to motivate or inspire them toward a desired outcome. Through experiential exercises from the theater, participants learn how great actors develop powerful communication skills and how these skills apply directly to their leadership roles.
