Reading List
Eric Rothwell (’12
MSMIT, ’96 CLAS) shared that he’d just finished reading "Managing Transitions: Making the Most of
Change, 3rd Edition" by William Bridges, PhD.
From Eric: The book is well written and addresses the psychological/emotional transitions involved when people experience change. The topics covered can be applied to organizations, teams, and individuals in both their professional and personal lives. This is especially important now, more than ever, as change happens continuously, simultaneously, and at an ever-faster pace.
These
transitions are an inescapable component of any project or endeavor involving
business process improvement, mergers/acquisitions, and changes in strategic direction
and executives, managers, and team leaders should know how to effectively
manage them to increase the likelihood that the desired changes are timely and
successful. I have been personally involved in projects where these transitions
were ignored and know that it was not a pleasant experience and that the
projects were not as successful as they could have been.
I am about to
kick off a Microsoft Project Server implementation project at Meridium in
January, and am doing all I can to minimize the negative impacts of the changes
to the organization and the individual contributors while realizing the
potential benefits as quickly as possible. Managing transitions will be an
important part of that effort."
Thanks,
Eric! I would love for you to share your
reading ideas with me. Just email me at acarter@Virginia.edu.
